Tom Lyons

Player #202 for Aston Villa, Alfred Thomas Lyons, known as Tom Lyons played as a full back for the club.

Tom played for Villa between 1907-08 and 1914-15.

Tom was born in Hednesford on 5th July 1885 and made his debut for the club at the age of 22 on the 7th November 1907.

Villa had signed Tom from Bridgetown Amateurs in April 1907 and he went on to make 238 appearances for Villa over his 7 seasons with the club.

During his time with Tom won the 1909-10 league title making 35 appearances and was an ever present in the 1912-13 FA Cup campaign including the final at Crystal Palace, London where a crowd of 121,919 saw Villa beat Sunderland 1-0 through a Tommy Barber goal in the 78th minute.

Tom played his final game for Villa on 10th April 1915 aged 29 after which he moved on to Port Vale.

Tom played his entire Villa career under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Tommy passed away in Hednesford in October 1938 aged 53.
