What they Said
"Then Bury attacked strongly, Henderson, after some fine individual work, scoring Bury’s fourth goal. Wilkes saved a fine shot from Henderson, and Athersmith then dashed away, centring accurately to Devey, who scored seven minutes from the finish. Final Score : Bury 4, Aston Villa 3."
Bury v. Villa.
Played at Bury before 11,000 spectators splendid weather. Both teams were fully represented. Bury started against a slight wind, but forced the pace, and opened the scoring six minutes from the start.
Bury still pressed, and Wyllie scored number two 11 minutes, and at the end of 22 minutes Wyllie notched number three with a magnificent effort.
Then Devey beat Montgomery. The Bury defence after this was severely taxed, but Montgomery rose to the occasion. Bury then worked up, and the Villa defence had a great deal of work. The Bury shooting, however, was a trifle off. The game was of the fastest character, and very much in Bury’s favour.
Bury continued to have the best of the exchanges in the second half, the Villa forwards getting up only occasionally, and seldom being dangerous.
Then Bury attacked strongly, Henderson, after some fine individual work, scoring Bury’s fourth goal. Wilkes saved a fine shot from Henderson, and Athersmith then dashed away, centring accurately to Devey, who scored seven minutes from the finish. Final Score : Bury 4, Aston Villa 3
