ASTON VILLA v. NOTTS FOREST
This tie was decided at Perry Barr before 6,000 spectators. Villa were the first become prominent, smart attack Hodgetts and Cowan being only repulsed by Ritchie.
Mid-field play followed, and Chatt was responsible for a splendid exhibition at half-back. A grand run by the visitors’ left made matters hot for the Villa, whose defence experienced the utmost difficulty in clearing their lines.
Hodgetts, getting the ball, made a lovely pass to John Cowan, who scored the first goal for the Villa after fifteen minutes’ play.
A couple of minutes afterwards Chatt put in a grand shot, which Allsopp misjudged and the second goal was registered after seventeen minutes' play.
Shaw scored during a scrummage, and half-time arrived with score—Aston Villa, two goals. Notts Forest, one.
In the second half the Villa started strongly, and a couple of corners were awarded in rapid succession, no score, however, resulting,
At this period the Villa were having for the best of the game, and time after time they attacked in grand style. The forward work was excellent, and able support was accorded by the half-backs.
