Weather of the most brilliant description prevailed at Sheffield on Saturday, when fully 12,000 spectators attended Bramall Lane grounds to witness the meeting between these two noted teams.
Owing to the strong team that Aston Villa possess it was thought that the “Villans” would prove the winners, but to the general surprise of the followers the “Villains” and the intense delight of the “Blades”, the United proved the victors of a most sensational game by two goals to one.
United won the toss and kicked towards Shoreham street, with the wind and sun in their favour.
In the first half play was of an exciting character.
Smith, of the Villa, was hurt, but at half time they led by one goal to United none.
The play was a most determined character and towards the close United scored twice and the result was Sheffield United, Two goals, Aston Villa, one.
