On This Day
Champions Villa journey to Anfield for the final game of 1909-10 but end the season with a third defeat in seven losing to runners up Liverpool.
As a result the final gap at the top of the table is five points.
Two goals in two second half minutes followed the Champions first half seeing a penalty refused and a goal disallowed. What followed was far worse however as Liverpool supporters throw stones at the departing Villa team and even strike the players in revolting scenes around Anfield.
Villa make it twenty three wins, seven draws and eight defeats in their thirty eight division one games in 1909-10 as Harry Hampton finishes the season as top scorer with 29 goals for six time Champions Villa.
