Villa concede a penalty after 2' for handball before dominating the game with a fine atttacking display yet it is the hosts who add to their lead after following up on a rebound from an excellent save. Villa concede a third before half time but net from their own penalty for hands to go in trailing 1-3.
Villa soon score again from the penalty spot before Boro's 'keeper pulls off some miraculous saves but the hosts hold on for a highly unexpected victory despite missing the fourth penalty of the game in the last minute.

Villa remain first, seven points clear of second placed Sheffield United and with a game in hand and six games of 1909-10 left to play.
