"The first goal really was the key in the match, and then the two chances we created. If we scored one goal in that moment, again our reaction and our mentality could be again strong to keep the result. We didn’t do and we conceded more chances for them to score. At the end, we have to accept it.

"After we draw against Sheffield and we lost today, a lot of people are not asking about if we are going to win the title. Before we played those matches, I gave the same message and the same message I am going to send. We have 39 points in the top four but we are not a contender.

"Today, we lost a very good opportunity to go one step ahead more against Manchester United. We will fight in the second half of the season trying to be competitive like we were to increase our level.

"We did it overall but today, the opportunity we had was fantastic to increase it. It is not stopping our idea or changing our mentality. Now, my focus is against Burnley on Saturday and we must react quickly.

“We have to accept the result and still being in the same process. We are not contenders. Today you are not asking me if we are contenders to win the title, but two weeks ago my response is the same as now.

“We have done fantastic, brilliant in the first part of the season, but we want to keep it and we want more. We have to build a team and to grow up trying to get to another level in every way we have as a coach, players and as a club. I will be demanding doing it.

"Every home team needs and plays with an atmosphere. The fans were behind them and they took an opportunity with the first goal to react like they did. We are taking experiences and we have players with experiences.

"We did it in Chelsea and Tottenham in the same atmosphere. Today, we didn’t do but it is another experience, sometimes being successful and sometimes not successful.

"We have to create and build here our structure and our mentality taking these experiences. Maybe sometimes it could be that players have come here and lost to Man Utd and it is not our way. Today we were playing against Man Utd and we are in front of them, we could have got the position in the top seven teams.

"We have to try and believe and play matches like that feeling and targeting it as three points which we have to get.

"We have to build a team and to grow up trying to get another level in every way we have as a coach, players and as a club. I will be demanding doing it.

"In the process we are in, football is very difficult and today we were analysing with the squad the top ten positions in the Premier League. It is very difficult to keep it.

"To be a contender in the top ten and trying to introduce in the top seven and then contender in the day 32 to fight for top five or four, it is amazing, but very difficult. We want to try to increase the level we are doing and being more and more demanding in how we are building the structure.”

“The manager said after the game that it’s a reminder that the level in the Premier League is really high, especially in the top five, six or seven. It’s really tough.

“You know that when you come to a place like Manchester United it’s going to be really tough. And when you lead 2-0, you should try and defend that to get a win.

“It’s a shame. We have to keep looking forward. We’ve done brilliantly up until now and we have to try to keep going.

“It’s not been easy for me, personally. I’ve been trying to work hard in training and waiting for the chance to come, like it did today.

“I scored my first goal for Villa today, which was really nice for me, but it would have been nicer if we’d have got a win.”
