Matty Cash marks his 100th appearance with a brace as Unai Emery's marauding full back style pays dividends once again. Even better is the maturity of the performance, no buckling under pressure and a level of game management rarely seen in claret and blue.

TEAM NEWS

*DISASTER* Emi Martínez is ruled out with injury and so it's the Robin Olsen show once again, Villa's achilles heel took 90 seconds to become befuddled against Hibs.... now breath is being held for a Premier League outing.

Elsewhere Nicolò Zaniolo makes his squad debut amongst just eight subs including two youth goalkeepers and Matty Cash returns to the starting line up to make his 100th appearance for the club.

PROGRAMME

MATCHDAY QUOTES

“He [Nicolò Zaniolo] is ready to play on Sunday after the first match he didn’t have the permission, he couldn’t play in that game. We are trying to add of him his qualities offensively and his versatility on the pitch, playing right, left, further forward. He is ready because he is training very well, he has good spirit, he has energy, power.

"He is a little different to the striker or wingers we have now. He can play being versatile and really, he is training very well and hopefully on Sunday he can play and his adaptation goes well and he can show his best performances with us.

"We are working being extremely focused and deep in our decisions. We have let some players leave and adding others, we are trying to be intelligent and smart in the last days of the transfer window if we need something more and if someone is leaving as well.

“We had two horrible injuries with Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia. We are not trying to replace them, but we are being concerned with how we can occupy the spaces they are letting in the squad, with the player we have now in the squad or from outside who can help us. We can’t replace them because Tyrone and Emiliano are two very special players for us, but we have to think how we can manage and use the gap in the squad they are letting us occupy.

“We are trying as well to be intelligent in the way we are we are taking with some players, young players. Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey, Jaden (Philogene) because they are young players, they can develop a lot in their career, but we are having a very good offer for them and we are letting them to go and trying to keep under our control the possibility of them coming back because we believe in them.

"We know now they need to play minutes, take confidence and here maybe they are not going to have the same opportunity like they can have playing in other teams. We are selling them because as well for us economically it is good, but always trying to control them and follow then their progress like we think they can do. Then, of course, they are increasingly the level we are thinking, they can be again with us coming back.

"Sometimes it's important to lose because you are taking on a lot of information, and things in our mind to analyse and try to don't let it happen again. It's the worst result I had here with Aston Villa and we reacted very good. We have to take the balance, and that's to be competitive at home and away, analysing deeply when winning and losing."

"Jaden started training with us last year at the end of the season, he started in the pre-season, and we were analysing him.

"I was very happy with him and we decided to let him to leave because we have offer, a very good offer for him and because we are thinking to play regularly here is going to be more difficult than going again in another club.

"Of course, we are going to follow him and we are going to be aware as well of how he's developing, but we are very demanding in our squad, in our decision to keep players here. We want to be competitive in every competition we are going to face."

Unai Emery, pre-match.

"It was really amazing because we knew before the match that it is very difficult to win here. They are so excited to play in the Premier League, we respect them a lot. We were very focused and tried to correct the mistakes we made at Newcastle. Those three points for us are very important.

"We have six points now, that's important. The first priority is the Premier League. On Saturday we play Liverpool, a very tough match. Confidence is very important as well.

"Today the players were very aware about how we can again be competitive away. We did it last year and it’s always more difficult [than] at home. We were very focused, we were consistent, we were strong in our structure offensively and defensively. Each player had to use their qualities trying to do their best, and that’s how we got our good performance. Today, we did it.

"To control the game in the 90 minutes is always our objective. It’s difficult to do as we want because the other team is playing and they are pushing. They are losing and at home, the fans supported them to do something, and when they scored the goal it was a difficult moment, but we reacted well and we finished the match strong. Sometimes, defensively we were low but also feeling good when we had to defend.

We were respecting them, analysing them. Against Manchester City, they were playing man-to-man, defensively they played trying to keep the ball for a long time. It was difficult to do more than five, eight, 12 passes in combination. Today, we sometimes got the moment to do it and the second goal was one example about the idea we have.

“When we can’t do passes, we have to be more clinical and efficient, being [more] direct than normal. Of course, the adaptation of the opponent was always the first step, respecting them. The game plan was more or less we did it in the 90 minutes, being in our structure trying to impose our idea. They are a very good team keeping the possession. We struggled in the second half a little bit, it was a difficult moment but that’s normal.

"Matty Cash is versatile and before he played as a winger. He played with us in a back four, sometimes we used him in pre-season more higher as a winger and as a full-back, he scored against Brentford. He helped us a lot today defensively and offensively. He used his moments to remember the moment he played more in Nottingham Forest as a winger and his two goals were good examples for us. We know he can play there and be versatile. In the end, he played at left-back as Lucas Digne had a small problem, and he played as well there.

"Moussa Diaby’s adaptation is going fast, but he needs this adaptation and each match for him he needs to know his teammates, and his teammates know him better as well. Then, in our structure, where is his best position? He’s a player who is being versatile with us and we want to use him in the season across different positions. He is very important for the team, and his capacity to assist and score goals. He is adding to us his qualities, being stronger with him.

“A few days he [Emiliano Martínez] is going to be ready again. I don't know exactly for Thursday, I don't know exactly for Sunday. It's very important to give other players chances and opportunities today like with Robin Olsen.

"We have some players injured, but usually during the season we will have injured players, they are recovering progressively. We also have young players in the under-23s who were playing with them in pre-season as well. Still, there are four days remaining of the window and we have to be ready in case someone is leaving, in case we have a good opportunity to add another player to the squad another player with us. Always, in my teams I am ready in case someone can come with us, or if someone can leave.

“We will be alert if something can add to us. We have our ideas waiting in our squad. We will be very ready for the transfer window. We try to always improve."

Unai Emery, post match.

“I'm delighted obviously firstly to get the three points.

“I think this is a really tough place to come. The manager obviously spoke before the game and gave us a game plan and I think it's crazy because whatever the manager says, he knows how the game is going to go before and he does it all the time.

“He's incredible and we've done the game plan today. It was to sit in a low block, let them have the ball, and then catch them on the counter attack. Obviously today I was playing in a different position not what I'm used to, and I’m buzzing with a brace.

“I'm just delighted because I know I can finish and can get in those positions quite often. In training I'm usually quite good and obviously in the first game (against Newcastle) I missed a good chance. I mean it was quite a difficult chance but it sort of stayed with me a little bit, and when I get in those positions I know I can do it, so I just try and stay composed.

"I like playing advanced because I know I can sort of create and do things, just try and use my legs really and get in and around it and try and support the forward play. I’ll play anywhere for this club, if he [Emery] tells me to play left-back like the last 10 minutes I'm more than happy to do.

“I want to score and create as much as I can because as I said I think I can do it and it's as a modern day full-back. That's how you get noticed by doing it and I want to help the team as much as possible, but then again I know how important it is to do the other side of the game as well.

“Sometimes you're playing the back three where I'm a bit lower and then sometimes like today I'm going to be higher and that's what I've gone over with the manager.

“As I said I'm delighted with the brace, but I'm also delighted that the fact that we've bounced back and won three games in a row. After the Newcastle game we were all a bit low, which is normal, so we're delighted.

“Obviously Hibs away was a tough game as well and obviously we’ve come out there and played really well and then Burnley is always always a tough place to come.

“The changing room is really good but when you win don't get too high and when you lose don't get too low, stay level headed and we've got a game in three four days so on to that."

Matty Cash.
