MATCHDAY QUOTES

"It's difficult to win here, it is difficult. After the first goal we conceded, we were not bad. We created chances. We were trying to impose our positioning, it was not easy to do it, but when we were pressing we got in their box and we created four chances to score in the first half. We were not clinical and defensively we were weak in some moments. They were clinical and 2-0 was not what we deserved in the first half.

"The first half was key. They were clinical. Maybe we were a little weak in some action and that was key in the first half. At 2-0 it was difficult but we tried to react, we had two very good chances at the beginning of the second half but after the third goal it was very difficult to come back.

"We played with some circumstances, like Diego Carlos being injured, and we played in some circumstances where we were not clinical.

"Hopefully not a big injury. We added and joined Clement, trying to help us eventually and I think with him and other players we have to be stronger than today.

"The injury of Diego Carlos. It was not a big injury, but it changed our game plan. Then, we were a little bit weak, maybe the idea with Carlos is to be stronger defensively with Cash, Pau and Digne. We can be stronger as well without Diego Carlos and Matty Cash.

"It was a tough match, they are a very good team and a candidate to be a top four. I was excited to test our performance but today we didn't.

"The second half we were speaking about scoring one goal and having the possibility to get back. We had two chances at the beginning of the second half, but we didn't score. They created a chance in transition when the match was so tight. They scored the third goal and then the match finished.

"Sometimes they were offside, sometimes not. We conceded two goals from set-pieces, and one goal from a cross from the right side. We didn't change nothing about our style, our idea, defensively or offensively.

"We tried to be focused in our game plan because here, like in Newcastle, we lost the last 30 minutes with five goals and really, I didn't want that today after the first goal. I can accept winning, but I can't accept to let them score more goals against us.

"Last week in Burnley and today we started being confident in our structure, still keeping the same idea and we will continue playing sometimes with longer balls, good positioning, creating chances, but really I think our next step is to keep being consistent when we have the ball. In some moments we need to feel comfortable in our defensive structure, which we usually are.

"The frustration is less than Newcastle. At Newcastle we really finished the match losing 5-1 and a little bit not being consistent in our game plan and today after the first goal we conceded, I decided, we accept to lose, but never accept the last minutes not being focused on the game plan."

Unai Emery.
