"Atkinson spurned the best chance of all, with a glaring miss six minutes from time, slicing a half volley way off the mark after finding himself unmarked on the penalty spot."

*The Sunday Tribune*
Sunday, 12 September 1993

DEAN Saunders and Dalian Atkinson wasted the chances as Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw by West Midlands rivals Coventry.

The £4m strikers were off target time and again, as Coventry became the only unbeaten side left in the FA Premiership.

It was hardly the platform to send Villa off for their opening UEFA Cup tie against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.

Atkinson spurned the best chance of all, with a glaring miss six minutes from time, slicing a half volley way off the mark after finding himself unmarked on the penalty spot.
