Villa open the 1993-94 with a stylish and comprehensive win over QPR as Andy Townsend made his debut.
Gordon Cowans, 34, makes his first appearance in a Villa shirt after rejoining the club from Blackburn Rovers in July 1993 on a free transfer. Cowans, the 582nd player to play for Villa in first team League or Cup football, had left Villa for the second time in November 1991 as Ron Atkinson moved him on but the Villa boss would mend his error, bringing Cowans back to his spiritual home 18 months later to make his 511 Appearance (490 Starts), W225 D124 L162, 59 Goals and 95 Assists at a goal involvement rate of one for every 3.32 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Midfielder Andy Townsend, 30, contributes an assist on his debut in a Villa shirt after joining from Chelsea in July 1993 for a fee of £2,100,000 to become the 693rd player to play for Villa in first team League or Cup football.
Dalian Atkinson makes his 50th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W23 D16 L11, 16 Goals and 11 Assists at a goal involvement rate of one for every 1.85 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Dean Saunders contributes his 20th goal involvement on his 45th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W24 D12 L9, 17 Goals, 3 Assists and 2 Bookings at a goal involvement rate of one for every 2.25 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Steve Staunton contributes his 20th goal involvement on his 95th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W43 D26 L26, 7 Goals, 13 Assists and 4 Bookings so far in his Villa career.

"Villa then went to town and were rewarded with their late double strike."
DALIAN Atkinson and Dean Saunders quickly demonstrated their lethal partnership with three goals between them to plunge QPR to a heavy defeat.
Each goal was a fine individual effort as Villa's strike force quickly posted their intentions for the season.
In an explosive last two minutes. Atkinson and Steve Staunton scored Villa's third and fourth goals.
Villa began and finished full of promise and enterprise but they often had to go on the defensive against a Rangers side inspired by the peerless Ray Wilkins.
In the 38th minute Atkinson raced on to a pass from Andy Townsend to slip the ball into the net as goalkeeper Tony Roberts and Clive Wilson converged upon him.
But Rangers showed resolution with Les Ferdinand grabbing an opportunist 44th minute equaliser with a perfect shot on the volley.
Villa's composure was ruffled but they regrouped to hit back in commendable style.
Saunders scored with an explosive shot from 30 yards in the 62nd minute, just three minutes after Gordon Cowans had replaced Ray Houghton.
Villa then went to town and were rewarded with their late double strike.
Atkinson scored with another long range effort and this was followed by Staunton's blockbuster.
