Villa put in another below par performance to leave them with one win in nine Premier League games and six defeats as they slump to 10th in the table under Ron Atkinson.
What they Said
"A half-time roasting from Atkinson appeared to have the desired effect as Villa began the second half in more positive fashion, with Ray Houghton grabbing the equaliser with a brilliant 30-yard chip."
lAN Wright proved his value to Arsenal with a high class, two-goal display to sink Coca-Cola Cup winners Aston Villa.
Arsenal made the breakthough on the half hour.
Villa right back Neil Cox pulled down Wright in the area and the striker got up to easily beat Nigel Spink from the spot.
A half-time roasting from Atkinson appeared to have the desired effect as Villa began the second half in more positive fashion, with Ray Houghton grabbing the equaliser with a brilliant 30-yard chip.
But, in the 90th minute. Arsenal surged forward and Wright picked up a pass from Kevin Campbell to drive the ball past Spink from six yards.
