EARL BARRETT'S first goal of the season earned a Coca-Cola Cup semi-final place for smash and grab Aston Villa at White Hart Lane.
Barrett had all the time in the world to steer an unchallenged header under the dive of goalkeeper Erik Thorsvedt in the 69th minute with Spurs' marking practically non-existent for a Garry Parker corner.
Only five minutes earlier, teenager Darren Caskey had pulled them back into the match, pouncing on a Darren Anderton pass to drive in a shot which was deflected out of goalkeeper Mark Bosnich's reach by the outstretched boot of Villa defender Shaun Teale.
Ray Houghton had given Villa. who included Paul McGrath. the lead 12 minutes into the second half after Tottenham's Vinny Samways lost possession and allowed Dalian Atkinson to set up the chance.
