"It was a classic case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show.
"Villa lacked the fizz that saw them upset Manchester United in Sunday’s Wembley final and were as flat as the champagne left over from their victory banquet."
*Birmingham Evening Mail*
Thursday, 31 March 1994
ASTON VILLA proudly showed off the Coca-Cola Cup to a bumper 36,044 Villa Park crowd but after that it was all downhill.
It was a classic case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show.
Villa lacked the fizz that saw them upset Manchester United in Sunday’s Wembley final and were as flat as the champagne left over from their victory banquet.
But Everton, desperate for points to protect their Premiership position, were not good enough to take advantage of Villa’s cup hangover.
They always looked the more likely side but they could not produce the final finish.
