What they Said
"Cooper was also unhappy at Ashby's decision to allow the winning goal scored by Dean Saunders, claiming the Welsh international was in an offside position."
BIRMINGHAM CITY manager Terry Cooper is being reported to the English FA over an alleged verbal attack on referee Gerald Ashby after Wednesday’s Coca- Cola Cup tie with Aston Villa.
Cooper heavily criticised the FIFA official over his decision to send off City midfielder Paul Tait after he reacted to a late challenge by Villa skipper Kevin Richardson.
He was also unhappy at Ashby's decision to allow the winning goal scored by Dean Saunders, claiming the Welsh international was in an offside position.
Worcester-based Ashby confirmed he would be reporting the Birmingham manager and said: “If Mr Cooper had said 'You had a super match ref I would not be reporting him.”
Villa won the match 1-0 and the tie 2-0 on aggregate.
