"MARK BOSNICH was Aston Villa's penalty hero for the second game running as the Coca-Cola Cup finalists somehow escaped from White Hart Lane with a point against struggling Tottenham."
*Birmingham Evening Mail*
Thursday, 3 March 1994
MARK BOSNICH was Aston Villa's penalty hero for the second game running as the Coca-Cola Cup finalists somehow escaped from White Hart Lane with a point against struggling Tottenham.
Bosnich produced two brilliant penalty saves to protect Villa’s eighth-minute lead through recalled midfielder Garry PARKER.
First, on the stroke of halftime, he dived to his right to keep out a well struck low shot from Darren Anderton after Neil Cox had dragged down Nicky Barmby.
Then four minutes after the restart Bosnich, who made three telling spot-kick saves in Sunday’s Coca-Cola Cup semi-final shoot-out with Tranmere, produced another flying stop to parry from Barmby and gather up the second attempt.
Again Cox was the guilty man with a rash challenge on the ever dangerous Anderton but again the Australian international goalkeeper spared his blushes.
Bosnich was finally beaten with just 17 minutes to go when Ronny ROSENTHAL headed powerfully home.
