As night follows day, Billy Smith's Villa lose to relegation fodder as the achilles heel of their title challenge strikes again.
To be fair no side should be challenging for the League who cannot beat the likes of Blackpool, Birmingham, Leicester and Wolves and so it follows that in all realistic endeavours, Villa's title challenge should be over but Arsenal also lose to Wolves
To be five down at half time against such a team makes a mockery of the League table.
Villa suffer their fourth defeat in six.
Villa make it eighteen wins, six draws and eight defeats in their thirty two division one games so far this season.
Villa are now without a clean sheet in four and have eleven in 32 games.
Villa remain third five points behind Arsenal but now have two games in hand with struggling reigning champions up next.
Full back Tommy Smart makes the last of his 450 appearances for Villa during which time he scored eight goals and won the 1920 FA Cup before moving on to Brierley Hill in May 1934.
