Player #349 for Aston Villa, Joseph Nibloe, known as Joe Nibloe, played as a full back for the club.
Joe played for Villa in 1932-33 and 1933-34 making 52 appearances.
Joe was born in Corkerhill, Scotland on 23 November 1903 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 27 December 1932 aged 29.
Villa had signed Joe from Kilmarnock in September 1932 for a fee of £1,875 in what was an opportunistic purchase.
Joe had a disagreement with Killie over his benefit match and when a resolution couldn’t be found Villa pounced and brought the then 29 year old to Villa Park.
Initially Joe struggled to get into the Villa side ahead of Tommy Mort however he did manage 12 appearances that year as Villa finished runners up in the league.
1933-34 was more successful for Joe, making 40 appearances as Tommy Mort was finally dislodged from the team and although Villa finished a lowly 13th, Joe helped the club reach another FA Cup Semi Final with strong performances throughout the season.
It came as a real surprise therefore at the end of the season that Joe was allowed to leave Villa and join Sheffield Wednesday in a part exchange plus deal for George Benson and £2,500.
With Tommy Mort’s appearances becoming ever more limited ahead of his final game in 1934-35 and losing his natural successor Joe at the start of the season it perhaps came as no surprise that the following season Villa were relegated for the first time in their history.
Joe’s final game for Villa had come on 5 May 1934 aged 30.
Joe had played under the Billy Smith led Management Committee.
Joe passed away in Doncaster on 25 October 1976 aged 72.
