Dai Astley makes it thirty three for the season as Villa end Billy Smith's last campaign as Secretary Manager in 13th place.
Villa had to wait until their final run of matches to delivered their best League run of the season in their final nine unbeaten games (winning three).
Villa's final match however should have been another victory as Everton were awarded a late equaliser despite Dean being offside.
In addition Eric Houghton missed a first half penalty before Harry Morton saved an Everton spot kick.
Overall Villa delivered fourteen wins, twelve draws and sixteen defeats in forty two division one games as heavy defeats punctuated the season and inconsistency was the watchword for Billy Smith’s final campaign as Secretary Manager.
It had proved a disappointing end to an otherwise celebrated regime whose signature high scoring style and reputation as the entertainers offset the disappointment of failing to win a trophy despite scoring over 500 goals across the previous five seasons under Smith.
Villa however were moving into a new era and the traditional management committee structure - already jettisoned by many clubs - saw from 1934-35 the implementation of the ‘manager’ role with a single individual in control of team affairs, transfers and training.
The first incumbent of that structure for Villa would however find life at the start of a new era doesn’t always run smooth.
Full back Joe Nibloe makes his final appearance in a Villa shirt.
