Match Media
On This Day
  • In blazing heat at White Hart Lane Villa concede the first goal for the third consecutive game in 1933-34 as they lose for the second time in three at the start of the season

  • Dai Astley scores for the third successive game in a second half bombardment of the Spurs goal as Pongo Waring scores one and makes one for his third goal involvement of the season.

  • The real story however is referee Snape's deeply unsatisfactory performance having singlehandedly handed Spurs a two goal first half lead with a series of decisions described as "not obvious" and "obscure" from two of which the home team directly scored.
