Villa end the season in eighth place as life under Billy Smith proves far from smooth but nothing if not entertaining. Good consistent, goalscoring winning runs interspersed throughout the season but often overshadowed by shockingly bad lows meant Smith continued to have a very challenging job in living up to the levels of George Ramsay but with the goalscoring sensation Pongo Waring in his side, anything was possible.
