Arthur Dorrell equalises but Villa lose a third successive game and for the fifth time in six as they are unluckily beaten at Burnden.
Villa's Autumn form becomes a long distant memory as they make it seven wins, four draws and eight defeats in their nineteen division one games.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Harry Goddard made his sole appearance for Villa aged 22 after having joined from Artwell Royal in April 1926 and before moving on to Stockton in August 1928. Goddard would concede the second goal from a long distance shot from Finney that deceived him before making a number of smart saves.
