Billy Cook

Player #322 for Aston Villa, George William Cook, known as Billy Cook played as a forward for the club in the inside left position.

Billy played for Villa between 1926-27 and 1928-29 making 61 appearances and scoring 40 goals.

Billy was born in Evenwood, County Durham on 27 February 1895 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on the 12 February 1927 already a veteran aged 31.

Villa had signed Billy from Huddersfield Town earlier in February 1927.

Billy’s excellent goals per game ratio was driven by his performance in the 1927-28 season in which he netted 27 times, including hat-tricks against Middlesbrough in the League and Crewe Alexandra in an FA Cup tie.

Already a veteran on joining Villa, Billy moved on after 40 goals in 61 games aged 34, joining Tottenham Hotspur in July 1929.
