On This Day
The last thing Villa need after this season of fixture mismanagement but that's what they get as Burnley fightback from two down in the second leg of the League Cup semi final to set up a replay at Old Trafford. That game is scheduled for 2 May, The final was scheduled for the 1st and 4th May. Someone wasn't looking at the calendar obviously. There was now no expectation that the League Cup would be concluded this season. All this could have been avoided but the authorities were totally unprepared for a third competition and inflexible in their accomodation of it.
Joe Mercer's play their eleventh game in thirty three days as they face off against high-flying top flight outfit Burnley in the second leg of the inaugural League Cup semi final but the two sides still cannot be split necessitating a replay in this already most of congested seasons.
