Eric Houghton scores as Villa are defeated for the third time this season and have just one win in their last seven.
Villa fall to joint 5th in the table.
Trailing by just a single goal at half time Villa have already suffered injuries to Frank Broome and Tom Griffiths with both players requiring time off the pitch. The second half begins in a flurry of goals for the home side to put them 0-3 ahead before Eric Houghton scores from the spot. Villa then lose George Hodgson and Dai Astley to injury and concede two more goals with nine men on the field.
Off the pitch, Jimmy Hogan's wife, seriously ill, suffers a relapse but the manager stays with the team ahead of returning to his wife's bedside.
Midfielder Tommy Wood made the last of his 71 appearances for Villa aged 28 before moving on to Newport County in December 1936.
