George Hardy

George played for Villa in 1936-37 and 1937-38 making 6 appearances and scoring once.

Brother of former Villa goalkeeping great Sam Hardy, George was born in Newbold Verdun, Derbyshire on 9 April 1912 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 3 October 1936 aged 24.

Villa had signed George from Nuneaton Town in February 1934 and he went on to make 5 appearances in his debut season.

George would play just once in the Second Division championship winning season making his final appearance on 9 March 1938 but he weighed in with his only goal for the club before moving to Blackburn Rovers in August 1938.

George had played under managers Jimmy McMullan and Jimmy Hogan.

George passed away in 1990 aged 78.
