Billy Walker scores for the third successive game but Villa's four game unbeaten run is ended as they lose at home to Tottenham.
Villa make it four wins, three draws and seven defeats in their first fourteen division one matches.
The game however was not without surprise and controversy.
The referee's decision to allow an offside goal met with "hearty disapproval" before Villa find themselves 0-3 behind at the interval to the surprise of most of those watching.
As the contemporary match report asserted: "The first goal was a fortunate one, the second was gained from an offside position. In this manner Spurs were distinctly favoured.
Stung by the iniquity of the reverse Villa mounted a second half onslaught resulting in two Billy Walker goals (including a penalty awarded against the same player for two offences - the initial foul and subsequent 'hands') but no equaliser is forthcoming for the unfortunate home side.
Despite their efforts defeat means Villa drop back to joint 17th in the table.
