Villa secure a first win in five games this season under Billy Smith and first in seven including the tail end of George Ramsay's mammoth reign.
Villa score the first goal for the first time under Billy Smith and first time in five games.
Despite the win it is tempered by yet another injury, this time to goalscorer Billy Kingdon but although hamstrung by injury from the first few minutes, Kingdon lays on the pass to give Villa a first half lead before hitting the winner.
If Villa's luck was just injury related they had another think coming as Ferguson opened Cardiff's account with a hand ball goal before equalising from a generous penalty award.
Kingdon though had other ideas.
Villa climb to joint 13th.
