🟥 18 Sep 1926, Villa 1-2 Bury, Villa Park

ON THIS DAY
Saturday, 18 September 1926
Villa, crippled with injuries, are without Mort, Kirton, Moss, Kingdon, Johnstone and Talbot but welcome back Walker and Capewell after their own injury problems.
Scarcely believably Villa suffer another injury in the first half with Fred Norris unable to kick the ball rendering Villa effectively down to 10 men.
Despite the handicap Villa create danger before Norris exacerbates his injury and Len Capewell is forced to leave the field of play for treatment, during which time Bury open the scoring.
Capewell returns but both he and Norris are unable to contribute leaving Villa playing with effectively 9 men.
A second Bury goal comes in quick succession before George Stephenson scores his second consolation goal of the season.
Villa now have one win in seven and four defeats under Billy Smith.
Villa fall to joint 18th.
Midfielder Tommy Muldoon made his 34th and final appearance for Villa aged 26 before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur in September 1927.
