ON THIS DAY
Villa end the season with a fourth consecutive win to make it seventeen victories in their last twenty two games, including winning their fourth FA Cup, and just three defeats in twenty three in all competitions as they make it nineteen wins, four draws and eleven defeats in their thirty four division one games.
A team already packed with talent welcomed the arrival of a new footballing superstar - Harry Hampton. Scoring twenty two in just twenty seven matches since his debut as a 19 year old in November, it was his arrival on the scene that set the tone for one of Villa’s most thrilling seasons as they both romped to victory and battled to hard fought wins throughout the second half of the campaign.
Indeed had it not been for some very indifferent form in the early months of the season there is little doubt that Villa would have once again been challenging for the title and had a very good chance of completing an unprecedented second League and Cup double.
As it was, Villa had to settle for just the FA Cup but the future looked promising.
