Billy Matthews
Player #172 for Aston Villa, William Matthews, known as Billy Matthews played as a centre forward for the club.
Billy played for Villa between 1903-04 and 1906-07 seasons making 26 appearances and scoring 12 goals for the club.
Billy was born in Derby in July 1880 and made his Villa debut on 12th March 1904 aged 23.
Villa had signed Billy from Ripley Athletic and proved to be a useful back up starter for Villa in the league.
All Billyโs appearances came in the league and his final game for Villa came on 10th October 1906 at the age of 26 before being transferred to Notts County on 1st November 1906.
Billy had played under the George Ramsey led Management Committee.
Billy passed away in Nottinghamshire in 1916 aged just 36.
