Alf Wood
Player #147 for Aston Villa, Alfred Josiah Edward Wood, known as Alf Wood played as a defender for the club.
Alf played for Villa between 1900-01 and 1904-05.
Alf was born in Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent on 30th June 1876 and made his debut appearance for the club as a 24 year old on 30th March 1901.
Villa had signed Alf from Stoke and he was to go on and make 111 appearances.
During his time with Villa, Alf would not win a trophy however his career, having taken off in 1901-02 with 33 league appearances reached its peak in 1902-03 with a contribution of 32 appearances as Villa finished runners up in the league.
The following season Alf would make another 29 appearances but would play his final game on 15th October 1904 aged 28.
Alf played his Villa career under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Alf moved on to Derby County in May 1905.
Alf passed away in 5th April 1919 aged just 42.
