DERBY COUNTY v. ASTON VILLA.
At Derby, before 12,000 spectators. Derby, who had the sun in their eyes, had the worst of the play at starting. Notwithstanding this their scored the first through Maconnochie.
The Villa, however, equalised from a long shot by B. Sharp.
Just before the interval M’Queen placed Derby ahead. Halt time: Derby, two goals: Aston Villa, one goal.
The second half was productive of some very fine fast football, and after Derby had made many attacks Maconnochie gave them a third goal with a fine shot.
Afterwards Villa tried hard to recover lost ground, but failed, and in the last minute Maconnochie nearly got through, heading the ball against the crossbar.
