What they Said
"The visitors were awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by Fisher. He, however, kicked over the barrier amid derisive laughter."
NOTTS FOREST V. ASTON VILLA.
This match was played on the City Grounds, Nottingham on Saturday afternoon, in the presence something like 4,930 spectators. More would have assembled had the weather been of a more propitious character. As it was, the most tempestuous wind raged from the north-east, and at times rain and sleet fell in almost blinding fashion. Scientific football was out of the question.
The Forest men, following their victory over Southampton St. Maryโs at the Crystal Palace Grounds on Thursday, met with a fine reception. Several alterations were made in the constitution of the local team. MโInnes, Allsop, and Wragg were given a rest, their places being filled by Bradshaw. Martin and Peter M'Cracken.
Aston Villa had a strong eleven, and their support seemed unusually sanguine of success.
The locals won the toss, and of course, had the benefit of the wind - and such a wind, too.
The forwards early began to press, and when the game had been in progress about twenty minutes Penbow, from the centre, shot the first goal. This was succeeded by one from the foot of Capes, inside left, and before the cross-over a third was obtained Benbow.
The visitors were awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by Fisher. He, however, kicked over the barrier amid derisive laughter.
The interval was reached with the score standing at 3 to 0 in favour of the Reds.
In the second half the visitors were seen to more advantage, the wind assisting their operation very considerably.
Fisher, inside right, shot through the Forest goal after some short passing, and later on he was again dangerous.
In the end the Forest men triumphed throe goals to one.
The game throughout was of a most erratic description, in consequence of the violence the wind, combined with blizzard storms at frequent intervals.
