On This Day
  • Villa lose for the first time in nine League games as Bournemouth draw and Notts County win, as a result Villa fall to third in the table, three points behind leaders County.

  • The defeat however is a freak result, not just because of the non-penalty penalty award by Roger Kirkpatrick but the fact that Villa produced a succession of footballing finery that represented their best form for weeks and only a miraculous goalkeeping display from Rochdale’s Tony Godfrey stopped Vic Crowe’s side being many goals to the good before Kirkpatrick’s bizarre decision.

  • Vic Crowe's Villa end a run of five victories and lose for the first time in nine League games to make it fifteen wins, two draws and six defeats in division three so far this campaign. Villa now sit third, three points shy of leaders Notts County.
