ON THIS DAY
Dick Taylor's relegated Villa end the season with a wretched set of statistics that couldn’t mask the deficiencies of Taylor’s regime and the team on the pitch.
One win in the final thirteen games.
Four successive defeats to end the season.
Twenty five defeats in forty two games
Four defeats conceding six.
Six defeats conceding five or more.
Fittingly ending the season with a final day six goal concession.
It was however mid season when the heavy defeats became narrow losses that relegation became an almost certain denouement.
The only surprise was that there was one worse team in the division - Blackpool - who took up last place.
Regardless, 1966-67 would be Taylor’s final season in charge as Villa faced up to life in the second tier.

MATCHDAY QUOTES
"I am sick and tired of struggling in every match.
"I'm 23 now and ever since I got in the first team at 17 I seem to have been struggling match after match.
“Every time I go home after a game and my wife asks how it went. I fly off the handle."
John Sleeuwenhoek sums up life at Villa.
