On This Day
Villa are humiliated by their relegation rivals on the final day as they concede ten goals in their final two games of the season. Villa had lost eight of their last eleven games, winning once as they collapsed from relative comfort to finish 21st in the table, four points from safety.
Dick Taylor's relegated Villa end the season with a wretched set of statistics that couldnโt mask the deficiencies of Taylorโs regime and the team on the pitch. One win in the final thirteen games. Four successive defeats to end the season. Twenty five defeats in forty two games Four defeats conceding six. Six defeats conceding five or more. Fittingly ending the season with a final day six goal concession. It was however mid season when the heavy defeats became narrow losses that relegation became an almost certain denouement. The only surprise was that there was one worse team in the division - Blackpool - who took up last place. Unsurprisngly, 1966-67 would be Taylorโs final season in charge as Villa faced up to life in the second tier.

What they Said
"I am sick and tired of struggling in every match.
"I'm 23 now and ever since I got in the first team at 17 I seem to have been struggling match after match.
โEvery time I go home after a game and my wife asks how it went. I fly off the handle."
John Sleeuwenhoek sums up life at Villa.
