Villa secure their third point in six games to climb to joint nineteenth with Manchester City, one point clear of the relegation places.

Dick Taylor's wildly inconsistent Villa record a second clean sheet in three after conceding twenty in the previous four to make it three wins, two draws and eight defeats in thirteen League games so far this season. Meanwhile, centre forward Tony Hateley made his final Villa appearance aged 25 before moving on to Chelsea later this month. Hateley played for Villa between 1963-64 and 1966-67 making 148 appearances and scoring 86 goals. Coming in to ‘replace’ Hateley in the squad was forward Peter Broadbent who made his Villa debut aged 33 after moving from Shrewsbury Town earlier this month for a fee of £7,500.
