Monday, 19 September 1966
SEVERAL hundred angry Aston Villa supporters demonstrated outside the Trinity Road entrance to Villa Park after Villa's 6-2 home defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.
This was Villa's fifth defeat in eight games this season; and some of the demonstrators chanted: "The board must go." and "We want Harry Kartz" a reference to the Birmingham businessman who has twice been unsuccessful in attempts to gain election to the Villa board.
When more than 50 policemen on foot and two mounted policemen moved in to break up the crowd, the demonstrators dispersed quietly.
While the demonstration was going on, Tony Hateley, the Villa centre-forward who has scored 84 goals in his three years with the club, saw manager Dick Taylor to make a verbal request—his sixth—for a transfer.
