Joe Mercer’s Villa - in fixture congestion typical of the period as the authorities continued to struggle to fit a full League campaign and two Cup competitions in to a regular season - play their fourth game in seven days and are beaten by champions Ipswich - a side Villa had beaten 3-0 in December.
