Ralph was born in Ilkeston on 26 February 1944 and made his sole appearance for Villa on Tuesday, 22 August 1961 aged just 17.
Ralph’s only game for Villa must rank as one of the most bizarre of debuts - appearing in the Final of the 1960-61 Football League Cup Final which was played in the 1961-62 season due to fixture congestion.
In other words Ralph Brown made his one appearance in the final of a major cup competition in the year following its scheduled running and so ‘won’ a trophy that is recorded as having happened before he made his debut.
Villa had signed Ralph from Derby County Juniors and he was to move on to Notts County in May 1962.
