Villa suffer a shock defeat to Birmingham after going behind within 39 seconds of the start, despite having more than their fair share of the game and the chances Villa can't make it count. The folly of letting Stan Lynn cross the city looks even more silly now.

Joe Mercer’s Villa mark their 150th game under his leadership with a disappointing defeat at home to neighbours Birmingham to make it five wins, three draws and six defeats in fourteen Division One games this season. 

Meanwhile, winger Norman Ashe made his final Villa appearance aged 17 before moving on to Rotherham United in March 1963. Ashe had played for Villa between 1959-60 and 1961-62 making five appearances.
