MATCH QUOTES

"We are in a false position, but now we have to work hard for 90 minutes in every match to put things right. "The players know their capabilities, and if we can maintain the positive aspects of our game, we will soon be climbing the table. "We have to work for the breaks, and I'm sure we will get them." Peter Withe. "I still want to take the spot-kicks unless someone else says otherwise. ”There's no pressure on me. If I am strong enough to take one in Turin, in the World Cup then I am strong enough to take one against Spurs next week if the occasion arises. "It was a miserable result but it's not all doom and gloom.” David Platt. "I was disappointed I didn't score early on. “I normally put those kind of chances away. “Pressure is what you make of it. ”I know what it's like having just come from Watford. "What you have to do is to battle, keep your nerve and refuse to panic." Gary Penrice.

Mark Pembridge chose exactly the right moment for his first goal for Luton - a crucial winner which may yet decide who goes down at the end of the season. Pembridge exploded a volley past Nigel Spink on the stroke of half-time. Luton, with just one point from their previous eight away games, got an early bonus when Derek Mountfield blasted a 27th-minute own goal that rattled Villa's growing composure. And when Pembridge blasted the second Luton looked as if they would coast through the second half. But the alarm bells soon started ringing when, shortly after the break, John Dreyer was pulled up for trying to escort Tony Cascarino out of the penalty area. But luck was on Town's side as David Platt's vicious spot kick flew straight to Chamberlain. The keeper then went one better when cleanly gathering Cascarino's follow up shot. Cascarino did eventually score, after 67 minutes, with a neat header.
