"Coventry rocked the home side when Brian Borrows' shot from the left wing flew past Nigel Spink for a 50th minute equaliser."
*Sunday Tribune*
Sunday, 9 September 1990
TONY Cascarino earned Aston Villa their first win of the season with a 78th minute goal against Coventry at Villa Park.
The Eire international striker latched on to a mishit shot from substitute Dwight Yorke and drilled a left foot effort pest Coventry 'keeper Steve Ogrizovic from 10 yards.
Villa, with only one point from their opening three games, had been the more menacing in the first half and Cascerino set up David Platt for the opening goal in the 39th minute.
Platt was brought down by Lloyd McGrath in the penalty area and sent Ogrizovic the wrong way with the resulting spot kick.
Coventry rocked the home side when Brian Borrows' shot from the left wing flew past Nigel Spink for a 50th minute equaliser.
But Cascarino left Coventry still searching for their first ever league win at Villa Park, although substitute Cyrille Regis squandered a golden opportunity with only Spink to beat six minutes from time.
