lan Olney's 43rd minute strike just about shaded the first half in favour of Jozef Venglos's heroes.
But in the 68th minute Daley jinked his way through Sunderland's defence and watched in delight as his weak shot slipped through keeper Tony Norman's grasp and into the net.
Villa put the matter beyond doubt when Platt dived in to score in the 76th minute.
