Villa see off Second Division Millwall in the League Cup as David Platt ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ hits his tenth of the season.
Villa secure their ๐ฉ ninth win in ๐ thirteen games under Jozef Vengloลก ๐จ๐ฟ.
Villa progress in the League Cup to their 8th place League placing and UEFA Cup achievements under the new boss.
Meanwhile former Villa great Bruce Rioch returns to Villa Park with his Millwall side, an incongruous match-up of โpragmaticโ management given his sublime on field skills.
Midfielder David Platt ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ makes his ๐ 125th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it ๐ฉ W56 ๐จ D28 ๐ฅ L41, โฝ 54 Goals and ๐ฅ 12 Assists at a rate of one goal involvement every 1.89 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Chris Price ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ secures his ๐ฉ 50th win in a Villa shirt on his ๐ 107th appearance (105 Starts) to make it ๐ฉ W50 ๐จ D25 ๐ฅ L32, โฝ 1 Goal and ๐ฅ 3 Assists so far in his Villa career.
Tony Cascarino scores his โฝ 5th goal in a Villa shirt on his ๐ 22nd appearance to make it โฝ 5 Goals and ๐ฅ 5 Assists so far in his Villa career.
What they Said
"Villa, who managed to keep a sixth successive clean sheet, stepped up their game sufficiently to make it an unhappy return for Bruce Rioch."
VILLA put a dreadful first half display behind them to sink battling Mil!wall with two goals in a six minutes spell in the Rumbelows League Cup.
The showdown between international teammates Villa's Tony Cascarino and Paul McGrath, and Millwall's Mick McCarthy failed to materialise.
The Lions left teak-tough McCarthy on the bench while McGrath has still not recovered from the knee injury that has sidelined him for the last three weeks.
It was former Mil!wall striker Cascarino, a ยฃ1.5 million signing by Graham Taylor in March, who put Villa on the way to victory with a 49th minute opener.
Cascarino silenced the taunts of the Millwall fans when he forced the ball home from close range after David Platt's header was blocked on the line following a Gordon Cowan's corner.
Platt made it 2-0 with his 10th goal of the campaign when he converted a 55th minute penalty after Keith Stevens had fouled lan Ormondroyd.
Villa, who managed to keep a sixth successive clean sheet, stepped up their game sufficiently to make it an unhappy return for Bruce Rioch.
Tony Daley came close to making it 3-0 while Teddy Sheringham wasted Millwall's best second half effort when he shot over from 10 yards.
