ON THIS DAY

Eric Houghton's Villa suffer a third successive defeat and have now shipped fifteen goals in three games as they lose at home for the first time this season. As a result Villa's previous eight game unbeaten run is a distant memory as they make it one win, one draw and three defeats in five division one games so far this season, scoring ten and conceding eighteen.

Meanwhile, full back Gordon Lee made his Villa debut aged 24 after moving from Hednesford Town in October 1955.

Les Smith, scored for the third game in succession but Villa are beaten once again and have now conceded fifteen in three games, Saturday, 6 September 1958.
