Villa three nil up collapse as debutant 'keeper Beaton concedes six but saves his new side from many more. It would prove to be Beaton's only game for the club but his was far, far from the worst performance on the pitch. Villa were playing the side that were bottom of the division at kick off, by full time it was Villa who propped up the table. Up next is third placed Preston.
Eric Houghton's Villa lose for the third successive game for the second time this season and lose for the eleventh time in sixteen as their terrible form continues. As a result, Villa make it four wins, three draws and eleven defeats in eighteen division one games so far this season. As a result Houghton would leave his managerial post with immediate effect with Villa facing an increasingly difficult fight to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Bill Beaton made his sole appearance for Villa aged 23 after joining the club from Dunfermline Athletic in October 1958. Beaton moved on to Airdrie in February 1960. Also making their final appearance was full back John Sharples who made his thirteenth and final appearance for Villa aged 24 before moving to Walsall in August 1959.
