Bill Beaton
Player #466 for Aston Villa, William Beaton, known as Bill Beaton, played as a goalkeeper for the club.
Bill played for Villa in 1958-59 making a single appearance.
Bill was born in Kincardine-on-Forth, Fife, Scotland, on 30 September 1935 and made his sole appearance for Villa on Saturday, 15 November 1958 aged 23.
Villa had signed Bill from Dunfermline Athletic in October 1958 for the significant fee of ยฃ30,000 - then the highest fee Villa had paid for a player.
By contrast Gerry Hitchens had cost ยฃ22,500 in December 1957, whilst Jimmy Dugdale and Les Smith had cost ยฃ25,000 each in February 1956.
Bill was the 56th custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football.
Bill conceded six goals on his debut and was to never feature for the first team again before moving on to Airdrieonians in February 1960.
Bill had played under manager Joe Mercer.
