On This Day
  • Steve Staunton puts Villa ahead at Carrow Road but despite a second half Norwich equaliser Villa's Premier League safety is secured in this most bizarre of seasons during which poor performances could be counted on one hand yet Villa had struggled in the table throughout.

  • Villa finish the season unbeaten in three games, winning once - enough to leave them one place above the relegation places.

  • Centre Forward Dean Saunders, 20, makes his 144th and final appearance in a Villa shirt (143 Starts) before moving on to Galatasaray S.K. for a fee of £2,350,000. Deano was an instant success at Villa after his arrival from Liverpool and his goals took Villa to runners up in the inaugural Premier League before winning the League Cup the following season. Saunders would leave with a record of W61 D39 L44, 49 Goals and 10 Assists at a goal involvement rate of one for every 2.44 games he played across his Villa career.

  • Centre back Shaun Teale, 31, makes his 181st and final appearance in a Villa shirt (180 Starts) before making a very surprising move to not even also-rans Tranmere Rovers for a fee of £450,000 in August 1995. Teale, who could, and should, have remained at Villa far longer left with a record of W78 D50 L53, 5 Goals, 3 Assists, 20 Bookings and 1 Red Card across his 4 seasons with the club.

  • Left back Phil King, 26, makes his 23rd and final appearance in a Villa shirt (20 Starts) but injury curtailed his career and despite only being signed in August 1994 he wasn’t to be part of Brian Little’s plans and would move on to Swindon Town in March 1997.
