"Mark McGhee’s down and out Leicester City climbed off the canvas last night to snatch a sensation draw against Aston Villa."
*Daily Mirror*
Thursday, 23 February 1995
Mark McGhee’s down and out Leicester City climbed off the canvas last night to snatch a sensation draw against Aston Villa.
Rock bottom city, totally dominated for most of the match and trailing 4-1 with 25 minutes to go, grabbed a stunning injury time leveller through substitute David Lowe that left Villa boss Brian Little absolutely stunned against his old side.
Dean Saunders struck his 18th goal of the season after only six minutes, to spark what looked like becoming a Villa goal-fest, and Steve Staunton capped a brilliant move to claim their second.
Dwight Yorke increased Villa’s lead after 59 minutes, and although Mark Robins narrowed the gap moments later, Tommy Johnson’s 25 heard lob put Villa firmly in command again after 65 minutes.
Leicester were left chasing shadows, but almost unbelievably, the roof fell in on Villa. Iwan Roberts headed their second in the 77th minutes then three minutes later, Lowe pounced when Mark Bosnich could only parry former Villa star Garry Parker’s shot.
And no wonder Leicester’s players danced in delight as Lowe bent to bounce his header past the groping Bosnich in the closing seconds.
